CAMROSE LEAFS TOP OFF SUCCESSFUL SEASON
The Camrose Novice Leafs topped off a successful season March 15 as they finished first in the league playoffs after an impressive win against the Camrose Novice Bruins.
"It was a total team effort," commented coach Scott Cunningham, who offered to have his head shaved if the team was successful in its final game. "Everyone played really well – like they have all year."
Cunningham didn't waste any time fulfilling his pledge. The head shave took place in the dressing room right after the game. The players even talked assistant coach Chris Duggan into having his head shaved as well.
For the Leafs, the playoff victory was the crowning achievement of their season. The team grew together throughout the year, and really gelled in December. In fact, the Leafs won all but one of their games after Christmas, including their league's Camrose Minor Hockey week tournament where they were undefeated.
In the league playoffs, the Leafs won their two round robin games against the Camrose Novice Lightning and Camrose Novice Panthers. The Leafs played the Panthers again in the semi-final and had their mettle tested in an exciting back and forth game that was ultimately decided in sudden death overtime.
The final game was also a well-played affair that was close through a period and a half, until the Leafs began to pull away in the latter stages of the game.
The Leafs finished their season with two fun events which allowed them, their coaches, and parents to enjoy the friendship they have developed over the year.
